Walker’s Cay

Powering an Island’s Next Chapter with LNG

The Problem

Moving Beyond Diesel During Redevelopment

Walker’s Cay is an iconic sport fishing destination in the northern Bahamas, known for its fishing, diving, and proximity to Walker’s Cay National Park. As the island underwent a major redevelopment, its owners needed an energy source that could support on-island power generation while reducing the costs and emissions associated with diesel.

Supplying an island also presents a practical challenge: fuel must reach the site reliably without the need for extensive new infrastructure. Walker’s Cay needed a solution suited to its remote location and its plans for long-term operation.

Sawgrass LNG began supplying Walker’s Cay with LNG produced at its Miami facility via delivery in ISO containers. The supply model enables the island to use LNG for power generation in place of diesel, drawing on Sawgrass LNG’s experience serving customers across The Bahamas for over 8 years.
